In Ayurveda this is called kamala. It is\ncaused by excessive circulation of pitta (bile pigments) in the blood. The\nliver is responsible for the production of pitta. If there is any obstruction\nin the bile duct, or impairment of the functions of the liver, or excessive\ndestruction of the red blood cells, then the pitta appears in excess in the\nblood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Classification of Jaundice:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, jaundice is of two types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1)&nbsp; Haemolytic\njaundice and 2) Obstructive jaundice<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Ayurvedic classics divided jaundice in two\ntypes according to its origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1)&nbsp;\nDirect and 2) Indirect<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Direct origin is again subdivided in\n\u2018Koshthashrit Kaamala\u2019 (Haemolytic jaundice) and \u2018Shaakhashrit Kaamala\u2019\n(Obstructive jaundice). If \u2018Koshthashrit Kaamala\u2019 (Haemolytic jaundice) is not\ntreated properly, it will lead to \u2018Kumbh Kaamala\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When an Anaemic patient consumes excessive\n\u2018Pitta\u2019 vitiating diet (i.e. excessive hot, sour, salty or pungent food\narticles), the other variety of jaundice (indirect way of origin) may occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Causes of Jaundice :-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Heavy intake of oily, spicy,\nsour, salty, alkaline,<\/li><li>Intake of very hot foods;\nalcohol; and sesame oil<\/li><li>Pandu roga<\/li><li>Vidahi Ahar sevan<\/li><li>Excessive physical work<\/li><li>Overindulgence in sexual\nactivity<\/li><li>Suppression of the natural\nurges<\/li><li>Psychological factors like&nbsp; fear, anger, and stress<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lack of appetite<\/li><li>Burning sensation in the body<\/li><li>Low-grade fever<\/li><li>Indigestion<\/li><li>Excessive thirst<\/li><li>Loss of libido<\/li><li>Yellow tinge in Eyes<\/li><li>Yellowish discolouration of\nskin <\/li><li>Nails become yellowish <\/li><li>Face become yellowish <\/li><li>Faeces become red or yellow\ncoloured<\/li><li>Bloody red or dark yellow\ncoloured urine <\/li><li>Drowsiness<\/li><li>Weakness <\/li><li>Fatigue <\/li><li>Lack of appetite<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jaundice Treatment in Ayurveda<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Snehana- Intake of medicated\nghee like tiktak ghruta or mahatiktaka ghrut<\/li><li>Vaman- Emesis treatment<\/li><li>Mrudu virechana- Purgation by\nerand oil<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Following are recommended as herbal\nmedicine for jaundice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Haritaki kalka with gomutra<\/li><li>Guduchi swaras with honey<\/li><li>Triphala kwath<\/li><li>Gomutra haritaki<\/li><li>Darvyadi leha<\/li><li>Punarnava mandur<\/li><li>Aarogyavardhini<\/li><li>Sugarcane<\/li><li>Tomato Juice<\/li><li>Radish leaves<\/li><li>Lemon<\/li><li>Garlic<\/li><li>Lemon Juice<\/li><li>Tomatoes <\/li><li>Amla<\/li><li>Tulsi <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Recommended Diet and Lifestyle for the\nPatient<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Avoid hot, spicy, oily, and\nheavy foods<\/li><li>Eat a vegetarian diet.<\/li><li>Avoid refined flour, polished\nrice (white rice), mustard oil, mustard seeds, asafoetida, peas, canned and\npreserved foods, cakes, pastries, chocolates, alcoholic beverages, and aerated\ndrinks.<\/li><li>Increase intake of whole-wheat\nflour, brown rice or parboiled rice, mangoes, bananas, tomatoes, spinach,\npotatoes, Indian gooseberries (amla), grapes, radishes, lemons, dried dates,\nraisins, almonds, and cardamom.<\/li><li>Avoid heavy exercise.<\/li><li>Do regular meditation.<\/li><li>Take complete rest.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JAUNDICE Jaundice is characterised by the appearance of yellowness in the eyes and skin.
